Season after season, American Vintage continues to focus on design.

This autumn, the window of our New York store will be decked out by Timothy Goodman.

Timothy Goodman says his greatest joy is building connections through his art. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, the artist moved to New York 20 years ago. Since then, he has created no fewer than 250 murals and large-scale works, combining words and drawings with infectious enthusiasm, written 3 books and collaborated with many brands (Nike, Nespresso and Saint Laurent, to name but a few).

"Timothy was an obvious choice.

We love his unique style and engaged designs, and also his attachment to family values and his versatile talent. All this made the collaboration a very natural one."

— Angélique Giraud, Head of Press Relations and Influence at American Vintage

A FAMILY STORY

His love of art and design came from his grandmother : "She was an artist. She painted, made ceramics and pottery. She loved making jam and designing personalised labels with pretty handwriting. That obviously had a big influence on me," he says.

Accustomed to large-scale collaborations and paying tribute to the genius of Keith Haring in his approach, this year he has created an exclusive piece for American Vintage.

“I finally came to the conclusion that the point of art was to communicate and contribute to culture.” — Keith Haring

A UNIQUE PIECE OF WORK

Called NYC everywhere, this mural is a tribute to his adopted city: New York.

With this work, the American artist echoes all the most emblematic districts of the Big Apple - in his signature black and white. “I don't describe my work as doodles. I draw and improvise. I take everything I do very seriously,” he explains.

COLLECTIBLES

This exclusive print is also on a white American Vintage t-shirt and a cotton tote bag, an alternative version of which will be available printed with the message "I'm too young to not set my life on fire".

These tote bags are for gifts.

The t-shirt will go on sale from 21 October in the brand's three US stores, New York, Malibu and Newport Beach, as well as on the online store.

Tip #1 • Decide who you want to work with

"My students are often better at identifying the places where they want to work. But it's the human element that counts.”

Tip #2 • Move forward

"A former teacher once explained to me that blank page syndrome doesn't really exist. When you're stuck, it's best to avoid tying yourself in knots and move in another direction instead. The idea is to always be on the move.”

Tip #3 • Find your style

"Whether I'm doing a mural for children in Brooklyn or decorating a lorry in Manhattan, I adopt the same aesthetic, without distinction. Projects can be commercial, cultural or personal, but they are all mine and all me.”
