Once again this season, Matt Etxebarne is an ambassador for American Vintage menswear. A professional surfer, he embodies our new spring-summer 2024 collection in a video campaign that reconnects us with nature, in collaboration with Surf Session magazine.
We go behind the scenes.

A young talent, Matt Etxebarne grew up in the Basque Country. American Vintage met him at home, between the mountains and the sea. At 22, he still remembers his first times. The first waves.

"It was in Hendaye, with my aunt. I got hooked very early on. When we were kids, we spent 10 hours a day in the water. I always knew I wanted to surf for the rest of my life.”

The story of Matt Etxebarne and American Vintage began two years ago:
"It’s a sporting partnership but above all it's a superb human relationship. I'm proud to be part of this wonderful family.”
This spring-summer 2024, the Marseille-based label is unveiling a powerful video in which the surfer rides the waves, which he tames like no one else can - but not only that.

"For this shoot, we also wanted to show what my everyday life is like outside the water, even if I feel the most at peace in the big waves. Free, facing the elements, alone with myself. But I also cycle and run in the mountains."

For American Vintage, the surfer put on a handful of items from the new spring-summer 2024 collection.
"I'm a simple person. I like clothes that are discreet and comfortable and this is what I find at AMV. It's perfectly in line with the image I want to convey,” he explains.
An uncluttered style to be worn when getting out of the water to avoid a chill, or to keep warm at home. Essential versatility.

Jaws, Hawaii. The water is warm, blue and transparent. The sun is always shining. The waves are huge and perfect.
Life philosophy
Do things properly, without taking yourself too seriously.
Inspiration
My surfing friends who I meet every day and who inspire me with their approach to the sport and their state of mind.
A passion outside surfing and foiling
Nature. I love spending time in the mountains. But also sport, particularly Basque pelota. It's a traditional local game.
Any advice for those who want to get started?
Have fun, enjoy yourself, believe in your dreams and goals. Anything is possible.
